NEWS YOU CAN’T MISS
Victoria Shi - The first AI diplomat
In a world first, Ukraine has unveiled a virtual AI spokesperson named Victoria Shi, ushering in a new era of digital diplomacy.
Modeled after Ukrainian singer and influencer Rosalie Nombre, Victoria will officially comment for the media on the MFA's website and social media platforms.
Victoria was created to provide updates (written by humans) on various issues, including the ongoing war with Russia. The move aims to streamline communication and allow real diplomats to focus on critical tasks during wartime.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba stated, "Real diplomats will be able to be more effective and focus on other tasks of providing assistance to citizens.”
This is a typical argument for using generative AI: free up the time of humans to do higher value tasks. I just didn’t expect it to be an AI diplomatic spokesperson! I’m all for it as the Ministry’s staff are personally writing the content.

When I told someone I didn’t know about the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar beef, they said I must have been living under a rock. So while I don’t listen to a lot of rap, I have to say the fact that AI is part of this feud that everyone from TIME magazine to the New York Times to millions of people are following, we have to talk about it.
One of the flashpoints in this weeks long battle came when Drake used AI to mimic Snoop Dogg and the late Tupac on his diss track "Taylor Made"—without the latter's estate's permission. The track was pulled down under legal threat, but Drake's use of AI vocals became a hot topic for music lovers and tech enthusiasts worldwide.
My take definitely sides with Tupac's estate: consent and compensation should be paramount when using AI to copy any artist's style.
A picture that says a thousand words…
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang personally delivering the first DGX H200 AI supercomputer to OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman. | When the CEOs of two AI powerhouses come together in this way, it epitomizes the critical interplay between state-of-the-art computing and the lightning-fast advancements in generative AI. The new GPU-based server from Nvidia is capable of 30 petaflops of AI performance, making it the fastest AI computer on the planet. It will enhance OpenAI's research capabilities, particularly around its highly anticipated GPT-5 model, which Altman has said will be “significantly better” than its predecessor and will take people by surprise. |
WOMAN IN AI
Meet the woman leading AI research at a $2 trillion company
Dr. Sanja Fidler alongside man-of-the-hour NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. | Meet Dr. Sanja Fidler, the VP of AI Research at NVIDIA - the 2 trillion dollar AI chip manufacturer. I'll say that again… NVIDIA, the company that is powering AI in almost every company with over 80% of the world's AI chip market share, has a woman as the Vice President of AI research. Now, that's pretty inspiring for all of us women in tech! |
A little background:
In addition to her role at NVIDIA, Fidler is an associate professor at the University of Toronto and a co-founder of the Vector Institute, a non-profit focused on AI research with support from the Government of Ontario.
She completed her PhD in 2010 from the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and did her postdoc at the University of Toronto in 2012.
She has 170 publications, focusing on topics like computer vision, detecting objects in 2D/3D, image labeling, and building models to understand 3D scenes.
My bet…
The next big AI company will be founded with a woman as CEO. What do you think?

UPSKILLING & PRODUCTIVITY
I regularly share my perspective on the latest AI news and advancements, coupled with actionable business advice. I’ll share some of these insights here for you to explore.
3 uncomfortable truths most coders avoid:
1. AI will replace many coding tasks, but adaptable coders will thrive. Complacency kills careers. AI is coming. Learn to use it.
2. Working with AI will be a critical skill. I've seen skeptical coders become AI advocates after seeing efficiency increase. Embrace the change.
3. Continuously updating skills is essential.
Why the resistance?
Avoid this trap. Stay curious, adaptable, and committed to learning. AI is a tool, not a threat. Master it and succeed. |
These principles apply to every field. Are you resisting or adapting to the disruption AI is bringing to your industry?
Biweekly, I publish an article on AI trends and insights, covering various industries and AI use cases.
More than 22 million papers submitted by students in the past year might have been written using AI, according to Turnitin. It’s important to stay updated on what AI brings to the table and how it is being used to personalize education. Whether you’re a learner or teacher, read my article for an insightful, stats-backed look into AI in education. |
