Elon Musk Creates a $1.25 Trillion Empire

SpaceX has officially absorbed xAI, the company behind the Grok chatbot, in a deal valued at $1.25 trillion - the largest merger in history.
One company now controls the world's dominant rocket launch system, a global satellite internet network (Starlink), and a leading AI model.
All under one roof and one person: Elon Musk, whose personal net worth has surged to roughly $850 billion according to Forbes, putting him on track to become the world's first trillionaire.
The stated goal? Orbital data centers. Musk says that within two to three years, the cheapest way to run AI compute will be in space citing power shortages, land constraints, and overheating problems on Earth.
Ayesha's Take: Orbital data centers aren’t economically rational today. Maybe one day they will but that’s not the real story. This is a governance story. When one company controls how we launch satellites, how billions access the internet, and the AI models that increasingly shape decisions, the question isn't whether that's powerful. It's who keeps it in check.

India Is About to Host the World's Biggest AI Summit

Starting next week, India will host the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, the first time this global AI governance summit has been held in the Global South.
Following major AI summits in the UK, South Korea, and France, India is stepping up with a clear message: AI must work for everyone, not just the wealthiest nations.
Here's what to expect:
Over 100 countries are expected to participate, with heads of state, researchers, startups, and civil society all at the table.
The summit is organized around "Seven Chakras" - thematic pillars inspired by Indian philosophy covering human capital, inclusion, safe AI, research, resilience, democratization, and economic impact.
Ayesha's Take: This is a pivotal moment. The AI conversation has been dominated by Silicon Valley and Europe for years. India hosting this summit, and deliberately shifting the agenda toward development outcomes, jobs, and inclusion is a statement that the Global South doesn't just want a seat at the AI table. It wants to help set the menu.

An AI Founder Organized a "March for Billionaires."

Image: Craig Lee/The Examiner
In what might be the most 2026 story yet: AI startup founder Derik Kauffman (Y Combinator-backed RunRL) organized a literal street march in San Francisco to defend billionaires protesting California's proposed one-time 5% wealth tax on residents worth over $1 billion.
The march website featured the tagline: "Vilifying billionaires is popular. Losing them is expensive."
Most people assumed it was satire. It was not.
The march took place on February 8, winding from Pacific Heights to City Hall. Turnout? A few dozen. Kauffman, who is not himself a billionaire, admitted he didn't know of any actual billionaires planning to attend.
Ayesha's Take: The underlying debate is real: the proposed tax targets illiquid wealth, meaning startup founders could be forced to sell shares before their companies go public. But a march for billionaires? In a city with a homelessness crisis? The memes wrote themselves.
