NEWS YOU CAN’T MISS
Is The School System Outdated?

We are still preparing children for a world that no longer exists.
I shared my reflections in Singapore's leading newspaper The Straits Times on perhaps the most consequential question facing our education system today.
Three pivots I recommend:
From recall to reasoning. Memorising information isn't just obsolete. It's now actively misleading - it tells children that knowing facts is the destination, when it's barely the starting line. The real education is what happens after you know something: the tinkering, the questioning, the problem solving.
From passive consumption to defended creation. At Oxford, you don't write an exam - you sit across from a professor and defend your ideas out loud. That environment builds something rare: the courage to say "I believe this, and here is why." In a world flooded with AI-generated content, that ability becomes more valuable, not less.
From AI anxiety to AI fluency. The students who thrive won't just use AI tools - they will interrogate them, push back on them, and know when to work with them and when to distrust them. That critical instinct is an ever more important skill. And we're barely teaching it.
Google just erased $1B of Figma’s value in 48 hours

Google just launched Stitch. Design software giant Figma lost over $1B in market cap in two days. Here's what's going on.
Google Stitch is an AI-native design canvas: describe any app or website you want to build, and get a polished design back in seconds. No technical skills needed. Just your idea.
Google is calling it "vibe design." It's the design equivalent of vibe coding.
> What can Stitch actually do? Gemini translates your words into HTML, CSS, and Tailwind. Infinite canvas, voice controls, instant interactive prototypes, and a portable design system — all free from Google Labs.
> What happened to Figma? Figma is the design tool that has been the industry standard every product team has relied on for a decade. It went public last year.
When Stitch launched, Figma shares dropped 12%. The reason is simple — Figma's entire business is charging for what Google just made free. Investors don't wait to see what happens. They sell.
> The pattern is real: A handful of tech giants are systematically swallowing entire software categories by giving equivalent AI tools away for free. Design is the latest.
ps. I tried Stitch. I vibe designed a professional mobile app for an AI executive education platform in minutes. Impressively easy. Great for prototyping. To make something truly great you'd still want a skilled designer but the process just got 10x faster for everyone.
Try Google Stitch beta here.
If you had 60 seconds with Google Stitch, what’s the first thing you’re "vibe designing"? |
