The AI Effect: Winners Soar, Losers Sink

According to a report by Bloomberg, investors are fleeing stocks they see as most vulnerable to AI disruption, while rewarding those that harness it.

The Big Sell-Off: Who’s Losing and Why

Bank of America has flagged 26 companies in its “AI risk basket,” which has underperformed the S&P 500 by 22 percentage points since mid-May. Examples include:

  • Wix.com – Threatened by AI website builders that can create entire sites automatically (down 33%+ in 2025).

  • Shutterstock – Competing with AI tools that instantly generate images and videos (down 33%+).

  • ManpowerGroup – Staffing services threatened by automation (down 30%).

  • Gartner – Fears AI could replace research services (down 30% in a week).

  • Omnicom (-15%) & WPP (-50%+) – Traditional advertising agency model under threat as generative AI moves toward fully automated ad creation.

The AI Advantage: Who’s Winning

  • Duolingo – Stock nearly doubled after integrating AI into its language-learning app and raising sales forecasts.

  • Big Tech – Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet, and Amazon plan $350B in AI infrastructure spending this year, up almost 50% from 2024.

Bottom line: Those whose business models can be replicated, or replaced, are seeing steep declines.

We’re Not Ready, Warns “Godfather of AI”

Geoffrey Hinton isn’t just another voice in the AI debate: he’s the Nobel Prize–winning scientist whose work on neural networks laid the foundation for today’s AI revolution.

In a compelling interview with Steven Bartlett on The Diary of a CEO, Hinton delivers an urgent and reflective take on AI.

He cautions that superintelligent AI could one day see humans as a vastly lower intelligence and pursue its own goals without regard for our well-being: “If you want to know what life’s like when you’re not the apex intelligence, ask a chicken.” 🐓

Hinton outlines where AI could lead us: extraordinary breakthroughs on one side, and severe threats on the other. These risks include cyberattacks, deep fakes, AI-engineered biological weapons, and lethal autonomous systems.

He stresses the existential danger, warning that once AI surpasses human intelligence, there may be no way to regain control.

When it comes to careers in the age of AI, Hinton advises pursuing roles that are harder to automate. “It’s going to be a long time before it’s as good at physical manipulation as us. A good bet would be to be a plumber.” 🪠

Despite his concerns, Hinton believes there’s still a chance to develop AI that doesn’t seek dominance. But to do so, he calls for urgent regulation and significant investment in AI safety research.

AI’s promise is huge, but so are its risks, and Hinton’s 90-minute conversation is worth hearing.

Would You Measure Your Body’s True Age?

Forget green juice and meditation apps. The latest wellness craze is tracking how fast you’re aging and trying to slow it down.

As Todd Plummer reports in The Information, at-home longevity tests now reveal your biological age, the real condition of your body beneath the surface, and offer tips for turning back the clock.

Once limited to pricey clinics, these tools have gone mainstream. Elysium’s Index uses saliva to assess aging in your brain, heart, and more. Bryan Johnson’s Speed of Aging uses a drop of blood to tell if you’re aging faster or slower than average. Viome’s gut kits map your microbiome, and wearables like Whoop track your biomarkers 24/7, because nothing says “self-care” like a push alert that you’re aging too fast. 😳

For some, the data is empowering; for others, it’s one more number to stress over. Either way, longevity tracking has officially arrived.

Would you take a longevity test to live longer?

AI Around The World:

In South Korea, the government is launching a national AI project that will use mostly homegrown tech to build a large-scale AI model. Backed by Korea’s strength in memory chips and AI research, the first model is due by year-end and aims to make the country self-sufficient in AI.

In Britain, Member of Parliament Mark Sewards has launched “AI Mark,” a chatbot clone of himself designed to help manage the thousands of messages his office receives. The move sparked criticism from constituents who feared it would make him less accessible, though Sewards insists it won’t replace direct contact or decision-making.
