The AI Role Every Company Is About to Hire

Jiaona Zhang, Chief Product Officer of Laurel,

I think we’ve all heard enough about the jobs AI is going to destroy. Let’s talk about jobs that will grow.

Jiaona Zhang, Chief Product Officer of Laurel, recently said that the AI Ops role is a hot new job coming up and I totally agree.

Here’s the problem: Most companies add copilots on top of messy, fragmented workflows and expect results. All they end up doing is accelerating inefficiency.

So companies are desperate to find people who can systematically rebuild workflows—deciding what should be automated, what should be AI-assisted, and how those choices drive customer outcomes and revenue. The results are much better when AI is applied this way.

There’s a lot of excitement around new grads leading this AI Ops charge, because they’re fast, experimental, and comfortable with AI. But I don’t buy the idea that this is a “young person’s game.”

Real transformation requires domain expertise—understanding edge cases, incentives, and the messy realities of how functions actually operate.

That’s why the winning model is partnership: AI-native grads working closely with experienced operators and learning from each other. I would say AI Ops is a job to consider no matter what one’s age. 😎

Would You Trust an AI With Your Portfolio?

Popular investing app Robinhood is taking AI finance mainstream. The company just launched “Agentic Trading” and an “Agentic Credit Card,” letting users connect AI agents that can autonomously trade stocks and make purchases on a virtual credit card. 😲

On the investing side, customers can ask agents to build or rebalance a diversified equity portfolio, or track themes like AI or clean energy, and then execute trades automatically within those constraints.

On the payments side, Robinhood Gold users can let agents hunt for deals—like cheaper flights or products hitting a target price—and complete purchases using a virtual Gold card that still earns cash back.

Robinhood emphasizes controls: spending caps, optional manual approvals, real‑time notifications, and the ability to pause or disconnect an agent at any time. Still, the company warns that delegating to AI comes with real market and credit risk—including the possibility of losing the full amount you allocate.

AI Around The World

Britain’s top medical colleges argued social media is as harmful to children as smoking, urging the government to consider measures like bans or strict limits for under‑16s, including AI-powered feeds designed to maximize engagement.

SOND, a sleep tech startup led by Bose’s former head of sleep, has exited stealth with 7M dollars to launch AI‑powered “Dreambuds” that monitor your physiology and adjust audio in real time to improve sleep. It’s aiming to move beyond simple noise‑masking to true adaptive, AI‑driven sleep coaching.

China is reportedly tightening control over its top AI researchers, making it harder for leading engineers at major firms to travel or work abroad without approval, as Beijing increasingly treats elite AI talent as a strategic national resource. This could reduce brain drain but also limit global collaboration.
