The US Just Ordered AI Into Every Classroom

The US government took a major step toward preparing the next generation for an AI-driven future.
A new executive order by President Donald Trump directs federal agencies to prioritize AI education in K–12 schools, aiming to equip students and teachers with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving workforce.
Key Actions:
Creation of a White House Task Force on AI Education, coordinating efforts across the Departments of Education, Labor, and the National Science Foundation.
Prioritization of teacher training grants, ensuring educators are equipped to integrate AI into classrooms.
Expansion of AI-related apprenticeships, with states encouraged to use federal workforce funds to cultivate AI skills.
NSF-led research initiatives, developing standardized AI courses and industry certifications for high schoolers.
The executive order establishes AI literacy—the ability to understand, use, and critically evaluate AI systems—as a national education priority. The first major initiative, a national AI challenge, is expected to launch within 90 days.
The Competition: This initiative responds in part to China’s aggressive AI education push, where starting in 2025, children as young as six will be required to receive at least eight hours of annual AI instruction.
The Smart Glasses You Didn’t Know You Needed

Meta’s latest update for its Ray-Ban smart glasses brings live translation to all users, letting you carry real-time conversations in English, French, Italian, and Spanish.
Here’s how it works:
Activate translation by saying, “Hey Meta, start live translation.”
When someone speaks to you in a supported language, you’ll hear the translation through the glasses’ open-ear speakers.
Use the glasses to listen to lectures, movies, or even live performances in another language — with translations delivered directly through your lenses.
Practical uses include ordering food abroad, asking for directions, attending multilingual events, or chatting with locals.
Privacy Concerns: The glasses have cameras, mics, and speakers, raising fears about consent and surveillance. Meta added a small recording light—but it’s easy to miss.
If you want to see how it works, watch this 1.30min YouTube short from CBS.

Godfather of AI Sounds Alarm

Geoffrey Hinton (left) receiving his Nobel Prize in 2024
Geoffrey Hinton, the "Godfather of AI," has a warning we shouldn’t ignore. Hinton pioneered deep learning—the technology behind speech recognition, image classification, and natural language processing—and won a Nobel Prize for "foundational discoveries" in the field.
In a CBS interview, he estimated a "10 to 20% chance" that AI could eventually seize control from humans—a significant, though unpredictable, threat.
Hinton put it simply: "We are like someone raising a cute tiger cub—unless you're sure it won’t kill you when grown, you should worry."
While AI could transform fields like education and medicine, Hinton warns its unchecked development poses existential risks society isn’t ready for. He criticized tech companies for chasing profits over safety and lobbying for weaker regulations.
As a personal precaution, Hinton now splits his savings across three Canadian banks, fearing a major AI-powered cyberattack could take down a bank within a decade. 😳
Sometimes my Silicon Valley friends call people like Hinton “doomers” but I disagree: Hinton is absolutely right to ring the alarm on poor oversight of AI.
Definitely watch this 8min interview with Geoffrey Hinton by CBS.
