If Billionaires Can’t Detect AI Scams, Can You?

Scammers cloned the voice of Italy’s defense minister, Guido Crosetto. Image: Eunews
If Italy’s top business moguls can fall for an AI scam, what hope do the rest of us have?
Scammers cloned the voice of Italy’s defense minister, Guido Crosetto, and called up Giorgio Armani, Prada’s chair Patrizio Bertelli, and other high-profile executives, claiming they needed money to free kidnapped journalists.
Sounds like a plot twist in a spy movie—except at least one person actually wired €1 million to a Hong Kong account before realizing it was fake.
Here’s how the scammers pulled it off:
Calls came from what looked like official government numbers, making it seem legit.
The AI-generated voice of Crosetto convinced targets that this was a national security emergency.
While many of them weren’t fooled, one unlucky victim believed the Bank of Italy would reimburse them—and lost a million euros finding out that wasn’t true.
Defense Minister Crosetto has since gone public, warning that AI-powered scams are on the rise. This came after an elderly woman was tricked out of €30,000 when an AI-cloned voice pretended to be her daughter in distress.
Events like these are a warning for anyone who relies on voice or phone calls for important decisions. AI is making scams more personal, more believable, and harder to detect. The best defense? Skepticism. If something feels urgent, unexpected, or slightly off, take a step back. Verify through another channel. Stay safe out there. ❤️
Scientists vs. Cow Farts: The Fight Just Got Serious

The beef and dairy industry is responsible for 14.5% of greenhouse gas emissions.
Cows might not seem like climate villains, but their stomachs tell a different story.
As they digest food, they release methane, a greenhouse gas 28 times more potent than Carbon Dioxide. And with over a billion cows worldwide, that adds up fast.
Here’s the story:
Livestock farming is responsible for a third of all human-related methane emissions, making it a major contributor to global warming.
Scientists have tried everything from changing cow diets to feeding them seaweed to cut emissions. Now, they’re turning to AI-created vaccines.
Researchers are using AI to identify safe, effective compounds to that will reduce how much methane cows produce in the first place.
A vaccine developed in the UK works by targeting the methane-producing bacteria in a cow’s stomach, lowering emissions by at least 30%.
But making it work won’t be easy. The rumen, one of a cow’s four stomach compartments, is known for not responding well to vaccines. Scientists also need to ensure that reducing methane-producing bacteria won’t affect digestion or require cows to eat more.
The idea has some serious backing—the Bezos Earth Fund has invested $9.4 million, alongside support from the Royal Veterinary College and AgResearch in New Zealand.
It’s not the only attempt to curb cow-made methane. Bill Gates-backed Rumin8 is working on a seaweed-based feed additive that could cut emissions by up to 95%. Their approach skips traditional seaweed farming, instead lab-growing the active ingredient, making it more scalable.
For now, researchers are working on a proof of concept. If they succeed, cows might just get their own climate-friendly shot—and farming could take a big step toward sustainability.
Is This The Future of Elderly Care?

If you have aging parents, you know the worry never really goes away. Are they eating well? Moving around? What if they fall when no one’s there?
South London’s Sutton Council is using AI-powered sensors to help families care from afar. These sensors track movement, temperature, and appliance use—learning daily routines and alerting caregivers when something seems off. A missed meal, a door left open, or unusual inactivity triggers a quiet nudge to check in.
For 86-year-old Margaret Linehan, who has dementia, it’s been a small but meaningful support. One night at 2 AM, she got up for tea and biscuits, which sent an alert to her son. “I just wanted a cup of tea,” she laughed.
The AI system has already detected over 1,800 falls, ensuring help reaches people faster when they need it. While many love the peace of mind it gives, others worry that it might decrease human connection. What do you think?

AI infrastructure is getting a major boost in France, with $112.5 billion in private sector investments announced ahead of the Paris AI Summit. A big chunk of this comes from Canadian asset manager Brookfield, which is putting €20 billion into AI projects, including a €15 billion, one-gigawatt data center in Cambrai—set to be one of the largest in Europe.
The UAE is also investing between €30 billion and €50 billion, partly funding another massive data center. Meanwhile, France’s public investment bank Bpifrance is committing €10 billion to AI startups, and telecom giant Iliad is putting €3 billion into AI-focused data centers.
All this comes as Europe works to keep up with the US and China in AI infrastructure. Just last month, OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle announced a $500 billion AI investment plan in the US. With over 300 existing data centers and 35 new sites in the works, France is making a serious push to be a major AI hub.
