NEWS YOU CAN’T MISS
Use AI or Forget the Promotion

It’s official: your career advancement in some firms now depends on how well you use AI.
Mega consulting firm Accenture sent an internal email to associate directors and senior managers this month stating that promotion to leadership roles will require "regular adoption" of AI tools.
The company has begun tracking individual weekly log-ins to its AI platforms - including its flagship AI Refinery product - for senior employees.
As the email put it: "Use of our key tools will be a visible input to talent discussions" during this summer's leadership-level promotion decisions.
This comes after CEO Julie Sweet warned last September that staff unable to reskill on AI would eventually be laid off. Accenture has already trained 550,000 employees on generative AI fundamentals and partnered with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Palantir to give tens of thousands of staff hands-on access to ChatGPT Enterprise, Claude, and Palantir's platforms.
Ayesha's Take: These companies aren't wrong to push adoption but tracking log-ins is a terrible proxy for actual value creation. Plus, it means you know you're being watched, which is disheartening and a recipe for employee resistance. The companies that get this right will measure outcomes enhanced by AI, not tool engagement metrics. There's a real risk of creating a culture where people perform AI usage rather than genuinely benefit from it.

Overpaying Taxes? Let AI Fix It

Most homeowners overpay their property taxes every year. They overpay because appealing a property tax assessment is tedious, confusing, and time-consuming - so they do not bother.
Ownwell is built entirely on that gap between what people are owed and what they can be bothered to claim. The Austin startup raised $50 million with this model:
Ownwell analyzes your property assessment, identifies whether you are being overcharged, files the appeal on your behalf, and takes a cut of whatever savings it recovers.
If it does not win, you pay nothing.
The company has processed appeals across 25 states, and the average customer saves several hundred dollars a year - money that was always theirs, just too inconvenient to retrieve.
Ayesha's Take: The most underrated AI opportunity is not replacing knowledge workers. It is navigating the systems that were never designed to be navigated easily in the first place. Ownwell is using AI to deal with bureaucratic friction fast and cheaply. The same logic could apply to dozens of similarly painful bureaucratic processes: insurance claims, medical billing disputes, parking tickets, benefit applications.

Wedding Rings Can Now Track Your Sleep

Image: Oura x Gucci
Something is happening in Silicon Valley weddings. Instead of exchanging gold bands, some couples are exchanging Oura rings - the sleek titanium health trackers that monitor sleep, heart rate variability, body temperature, and recovery.
The Information reported this week on a growing cohort of wellness-obsessed tech workers who have decided that a ring quantifying your body is more meaningful than one that merely symbolizes commitment.
Oura shipped 49% more rings in 2025 than the year before - dramatically outpacing smartwatches - and has sold over 5.5 million devices lifetime.
The company has launched gold and diamond-studded versions, positioning itself explicitly as jewellery as much as technology. Jack Dorsey wears one. So do professional athletes, longevity enthusiasts, and apparently now newlyweds who want their vows to come with a readiness score.

AI Around The World
🇬🇧 UK Sets Target of 10 Million Adults Upskilled in AI by 2030 - The government expanded its AI Skills Boost programme on January 28, making free, benchmarked AI training accessible to every adult in the country via courses that take as little as 20 minutes.
New partners include the NHS - the UK's largest employer - the British Chambers of Commerce, and the Federation of Small Businesses.
The stat that prompted all this: only 21% of UK workers currently feel confident using AI at work, and only one in six businesses actively use it. The government also stood up a new AI and the Future of Work Unit to monitor how AI is reshaping jobs in real time.
