What If Your Mirror Could Save Your Life?

Image: Withings

At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Withings has stolen the spotlight with its Omnia Health Screening Mirror. This device combines AI with comprehensive health tracking, promising to transform how we monitor and manage our well-being. 🤔

It’s a mirror but so much more than that.

The Omnia is a full-height smart mirror with key features like:

  • Full-body scanning technology

  • Real-time health metric display on the mirror surface

  • AI-powered voice assistant

  • Telemedicine integration capabilities

The mirror is designed to measure and display a wide range of health metrics, including overnight and resting heart rate, vascular age, blood pressure, weight trends, muscle-to-fat ratio, water and bone mass, visceral fat levels, and activity and sleep quality.

AI Integration and User Interaction

  • The Omnia's AI Vocal Companion is a central feature, offering real-time feedback and guidance on health data.

  • This AI assistant can provide health-related information, motivational support, and suggestions for medical consultations when necessary.

Data Integration

  • The Omnia is designed to integrate data from other Withings devices and compatible health trackers (potentially like Apple Health, Oura and my fave Whoop).

  • This integration allows for a more comprehensive health overview but also raises questions about data privacy and security.

Coming in Late 2025

Withings has announced plans to integrate some of its features, including AI guidance and clinician reviews, into the Withings app later in 2025. I’m excited to try it out. 😎

Sam Altman Predicts "Virtual Employees" Coming in 2025

Image: Joel Saget

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT, announced that AI-powered "virtual employees" could start joining company workforces as soon as this year - yep, the one that just started last week.

These AI employees would be able to perform tasks like scheduling meetings, writing code, and booking travel… without any involvement from you.

“We believe that, in 2025, we may see the first AI agents 'join the workforce' and materially change the output of companies." - Sam Altman

OpenAI is reportedly planning to launch its own AI agent called "Operator" this month.

Looking Ahead:

  • McKinsey predicts that by 2030, up to 30% of work hours in the US could be automated by this technology.

  • Before you start worrying, these AI agents are designed to assist and augment human work rather than replace workers entirely.

  • I like to think of it more like 30% of your tasks will be automated with the help of AI agents … which if you think about it would be quite nice.

  • That's an important distinction. Instead of worrying about being replaced by AI agents, how about focusing on how to work with them.

Here’s your AI term of the year 🤗:

  • AI agents: Software programs that can perform tasks independently, like a virtual assistant that doesn't need constant human instruction.

To be honest, I do believe we’re entering an era where working with AI agents for a number of routine tasks will become the default within 5 years. 😎

What Does Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Have to Do with Facebook?

Dana White, the CEO of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), has joined the board of directors of Meta (the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp).

White, who has transformed UFC into a global sports powerhouse, is known for his entrepreneurial spirit and ability to build a beloved brand. He's also a close ally of President-elect Donald Trump.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's CEO, has developed a friendship with White over their shared enthusiasm for mixed martial arts. Zuckerberg began practicing MMA in 2022 and has attended numerous UFC events.

Do you think Dana White's appointment to Meta's board will have a positive or negative impact on the company's future direction?

How will Dana White shake up Silicon Valley as Meta’s board member?

Articles I’ve Been Reading:

Backed by Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Jack Ma, KoBold Metals has raised $537M to push its valuation to $2.96B. The funding will support its AI-powered mining efforts, including developing a massive copper deposit in Zambia—one of the largest ever discovered—and exploring resources across 5 continents.

Mining is notoriously tough, with only 3 out of 1,000 deposits being commercially viable. KoBold uses AI to change that by analyzing vast geological datasets, improving success rates.

The surging demand for critical minerals is driven by the global clean energy transition, electrification of transportation, technological innovation, and strategic efforts to diversify supply chains away from Chinese dominance.

What I find really interesting: KoBold Metals underscores Africa's pivotal role in the global critical minerals landscape. ♥️

Until next time!

Ayesha ❤️
